Neue Synagoge Berlin - Centrum Judaicum

The golden dome dominates the skyline of central Berlin. The New Synagogue in Oranienburger Strasse - once it crowned the largest and most beautiful synagogue in Germany and was a symbol of proud Jewish citizens. Desecrated during Kristallnacht in 1938, it was severely damaged by bombing in World War II. After the war, the main hall of the synagogue was demolished. With the exhibition "Open the gates" in the restored historical rooms, the Foundation New Synagogue Berlin recalls - Centrum Judaicum in history and the fate of Berlin's Jews.

The open space behind the restored parts of the synagogue give some clue to just how vast the sanctuary once was. The plan of the former main synagogue - designed in stone - and gives an idea of ​​the dimensions of the destroyed part. The scars caused by history thus remain visible.
