Zille Museum - a must see for every Berlin visitor!
Heinrich Zille (1858 - 1929) is one of the most famous artists in the city. The Zille Museum located in Nikolaiviertel presents over 150 illustrations, prints, photographs and books. A 20-minute documentary with original recordings from the "Berlin setting". It illustrates Zille's life in the backyards of Berlin. Zille's work was distributed millions of times. Everybody talks about his art still in a controversial way. It combines the observer's direct perspective with a special but loving humor. It represents Berlins catastrophic working-class neighborhoods of the Imperial and the 1920s. Zille with his museum is an important part of Berlin, German art and cultural history.
Magnificent achievements of photographic modernism.
The photographs Zille made in Berlin from 1890 to 1910 are one of the pioneers of photographic modernism. With their unusal view to Berlins daily life and peoples life circumstances he was ahead of the times.
2018 is becoming the “Zille Year” because of his 160th birthday. A lot of special events and special exhibitions will take place.
