The Potsdam Museum - Forum for Art and History is located in the Old Town Hall on the Old Market. Opposite the Barberini Museum and the Potsdam State Parliament, the listed building complex with its glazed entrance and the modern interior design forms an ideal setting for an attractive city museum.
The permanent exhibition "Potsdam. A City Makes History" covers the life and culture of Potsdam from its first mention in 993 to the present. Some 600 items from the museum's collections will provide information on the peoples who have migrated to and settled in Potsdam over the centuries, scientists and architects, kings and craftspeople. The items convey a vivid picture of the day-to-day life of the city's residents and how the cityscape reflects the development of European architecture. Original exhibits such as furniture, textiles, paintings, sculptures, and faience are supplemented by models, interactive areas, and a wide range of multimedia offerings in the exhibition.
