Konzerthaus Berlin

The  Konzerthaus Berlin built from 1818 to 1821 by Karl Friedrich Schinkel at Gendarmenmarkt as a theatre wrote music history: Weber's "Freischütz" premiered here, Paganini and Liszt concerts were loudly celebrated, Wagner conducted his "Flying Dutchman" for the first time in the Prussian capital. Heavily damaged in World War II, the building was faithfully reconstructed and inaugurated again in 1984 and became the home of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, which has been called Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin since 2007.

In four halls, the Konzerthaus Berlin today has a wide-ranging programme which includes several onsite festivals every year. The majority of the 600 concerts per season are played by the Konzerthaus Orchestra, headed by the innovative principal conductor Iván Fischer since 2012/13. The most important thing is to bring music to the audience. New formats such as the well-received "in the midst" were developed, in which the audience experiences the concert sitting up close with the orchestra.

Information for school groups

In free rehearsal sessions and interviews with the musicians before and after the rehearsal, school classes are given insight into the work of the Konzerthaus Orchestra. Secondary school classes can watch open rehearsals. Preparation is done by sending programme texts or visiting volunteer Konzerthaus employees.
