The German Cinematheque Museum of Film and Television in the Filmhaus on Potsdamer Platz is dedicated to the fascinating world of moving images and illuminates the history and present day of film and television from the silent film pioneers to the legendary Marlene Dietrich to current digital productions.
The museum draws from the rich collections the German Cinematheque has archived since it was founded in 1963: set design, costumes, props, posters, scripts, and much more. You can also see part of Marlene Dietrich's extensive legacy as well as items from the collections of film and television creators such as Fritz Lang, Werner Herzog, Bernd Eichinger, production designer Ken Adam, and TV documentary maker Georg Stefan Troller.
An impressive hall of mirrors awaits visitors at the entrance to the permanent exhibition. The boundaries between reality and fiction are blurred here and visitors can dive into a magical journey of more than 120 years of film history. Film clips alternate with exhibits and multimedia stations offer more in-depth information. The Television Media Library complements the permanent exhibition and takes you on a journey through personalised television history. Six television islands are available in which visitors can view selected programmes from the beginning of television up to the present day. A keyword search allows you to find German television greats and award-winning formats. Alternating special exhibitions explore the cultural-historical context of film and television and expand your journey through the history of both media.
