The Villa Schöningen is located next to the Glienicke Bridge, at the borderline between Berlin and Potsdam, between former East and West Germany. During the Cold War era spy swaps took place at this point of international interest. The permanent multimedia-based exhibition in the Villa Schöningen is dedicated to the historical and symbolical importance of the Glienicke Bridge, concentrating on the period from 1961 to 1989. Apart from that there are also temporary exhibitions of contemporary art on display. The presented artworks are associated with the division of Germany and the Cold War period. The temporary exhibitions in the sculpture garden with works from contemporary artists underline as well the significance of the location.
